A note from the founder

I built TryBeforeDubai after doing the move myself and watching friends make expensive, avoidable mistakes — the area that looked cheap until the commute broke them, the lease signed before anyone checked the school catchment, the chiller bill nobody warned them about.

Every tool I reached for was trying to sell me something. Portals wanted the listing clicked, agents wanted the deal closed, Facebook groups were loud and biased, and ChatGPT gave confident answers with no idea of my budget, my kids or my office. Nobody was simply answering the real question: will my life actually work here, and what will the first year really cost?

So TryBeforeDubai is deliberately not a brokerage. We take no commission and rank nothing for money. We'd rather tell you not to sign than push you somewhere wrong. That's the entire point.

How matching works

We use a transparent rules-based engine. Your questionnaire answers become weighted priorities. We score every area against those priorities, apply hard penalties for deal-breakers, and explain every score driver in the UI. No black-box AI scores you can't inspect.

Trust & verification

Every record carries a verification badge that shows where it comes from — rents from the Dubai Land Department, schools from KHDA, area access from OpenStreetMap — and which fields are our editorial model. We never pass off an estimate as a verified fact.

Verified: 200+of Dubai's KHDA-registered private schools (official inspection ratings, curricula and locations) with published fees for many; typical rents for 40+ communities, computed from new residential tenancy contracts registered with the Dubai Land Department (2025–26); and the location scores for every area — Metro, beach, mall, school and amenity access — measured from OpenStreetMap and Dubai geography — with the fit scores (family, couple, pet, quietness, premium lifestyle) modelled transparently from those measurements via fixed weightings. A few inherently subjective scores and some building-level details remain editorial assessments, clearly badged as such, and we verify more over time.

  • Resident submissions are moderated. We do not publish unverified claims about named buildings automatically.
