DEWA powers and waters your home. Connecting it is one of the first things you'll do after signing. Here's the process, the deposits and the timing.
DEWA (Dubai Electricity and Water Authority) supplies electricity and water. Once you've signed your tenancy and registered Ejari, you connect (activate) the supply in your name, usually a quick, app-based process.

A municipality housing fee equal to 5% of your annual rent is collected in monthly instalments through your DEWA bill. On AED 120k rent that's AED 6,000 a year (AED 500/month), budget for it.
How to set it up
- 1Register Ejari first
You need your Ejari certificate/number to activate DEWA.
- 2Use the DEWA app or website
Create an account and choose 'Move-in / activation'.
- 3Upload documents
Ejari, Emirates ID/passport, and the premises number (on the meter or a prior bill).
- 4Pay the deposit and fee
Pay the refundable deposit and activation fee by card.
- 5Activation
Supply is usually activated within 24 hours, often same day.
Request a final bill and DEWA clearance, and reclaim your deposit. Many landlords ask for a DEWA clearance certificate before returning your security deposit.
