Dubai school fees by area
School fees often rival rent for families, and the best schools cluster in specific areas. Here's how fees, ratings and locations connect — and how to plan around them.
For families, the school decision and the area decision are the same decision. Dubai's schools are regulated and inspected by the KHDA, which publishes an official rating for every school — making it one of the few places you can compare schools objectively. Browse the full schools directory with live KHDA ratings.
What schools cost
| Tier | Indicative annual fee per child |
|---|---|
| Budget / value schools | AED 15,000–35,000 |
| Mid-market | AED 35,000–60,000 |
| Premium (top British/IB) | AED 60,000–100,000+ |
Plus one-off registration (~AED 500–5,000) and sometimes a refundable term deposit. Fees rise through the school years.
On top of tuition: registration fee, an assessment fee, a refundable deposit, uniforms, books, transport (bus) and trips. For two children at a premium school, the all-in number can exceed AED 200,000 a year.

Waiting lists and timing
- 1The best-rated schools run waiting lists, especially for entry years — apply as early as you can.
- 2Some popular year groups (e.g. FS2, Year 7) fill faster than others.
- 3Secure (or strongly progress) the school place before committing to an area, not after.
- 4Use the KHDA rating plus a visit — a 'Good' school near you can beat an 'Outstanding' one across town with no places.
Pick the school, confirm a place, then choose the community around it. Choosing the area first and hoping for a place is how families end up moving twice.
