Working near Dubai Airport (DAFZA): where to live

Working on the eastern, airport side of Dubai flips the usual map, the central and western favourites become a long haul. Here's where to live instead.

If you work at Dubai International Airport (DXB), the Dubai Airport Free Zone (DAFZA), or in Deira and the eastern districts, the popular Marina/Media City areas become a painful cross-city commute. The eastern side has its own set of strong, often better-value options.

Best areas for an airport / DAFZA commute

  • Mirdif, minutes from the airport, affordable villas, quiet and family-friendly. The classic eastern choice. Profile.
  • Dubai Festival City, waterfront living, mall on-site, very close to the airport. Profile.
  • Dubai Creek Harbour, newer waterfront towers, well placed for the eastern/creek side. Profile.
  • International City / DSO, budget options on the eastern side. International City.
  • Downtown / Business Bay, central and reachable via the airport corridor if you want city life. Downtown.

Commute reality

Mirdif and Festival City are close to DXB/DAFZA, often 10–20 minutes. The airport sits on the Metro Red and Green lines too, so central areas along those lines work. Avoid Marina/Media City for a daily airport commute. It's a long cross-city haul. See the commute guide.

Lifestyle fit

  • Family + value + close to work: Mirdif.
  • Waterfront + mall + airport-close: Festival City or Creek Harbour.
  • Budget-first: International City or Silicon Oasis.
  • Want central city life: Downtown/Business Bay via the airport corridor.
